The State Cat of Maine!

The Maine Coon was recognized as the official state cat of Maine in 1985. Although their breed has been around since before the turn of the century.The name Maine is most likely a nautical term that refers to the area being a mainland. This reference was first used in 1622. The states nickname is the pine tree state, and the white pine is the state tree. If you would like to know more please go to the link.
